I have a dream

Al di là delle turcofobie e delle turcofilie più disparate, e naturalmente della mia incompetenza geopolitica sull'argomento, l'ingresso della Turchia nell'Unione Europea appare essere un evento parecchio complesso.
Ci sono ancora molte differenze, non solo di carattere geografico - confini convenzionali tra Oriente e Occidente -, ma anche di tipo identitario e religioso, che dividono le pubbliche opinioni e suscitano perplessità e discussioni. Non ultima quella della paventata apertura di un'altra porta, oltre a quella rappresentata dalla già numerosa presenza musulmana in Europa, all'ingresso massiccio dell'Islam nel Vecchio Continente.
Secondo me, che come più volte vi ho detto sono ignorante, ci sarebbero meno guerre se ciascuno di noi, anziché chiudersi su atteggiamenti spesso arroganti e pretestuosi, fosse più umile e provasse a "calarsi" negli altrui problemi cercando di risolverli insieme. Ma questo, ahimè, essendo l'uomo venuto al mondo da un buco vicinissimo a quello del culo, sappiamo tutti che resterà soltanto un sogno. Per quanto mi riguarda, invece, non ho alcun timore. I Turchi saranno i benvenuti.
D'altra parte, io, sono anni che fumo come un turco e nessuno mi ha mai scacciato dall'Unione Europea.

There are still many differences, not only of geographical - conventional boundaries between East and West - but also of identity and religion, which divide the public opinion and raise doubts and discussions. Not least that of the feared open another door, in addition to those already represented by the large Muslim presence in Europe to massive Islam in the Old Continent. To me, that as I have repeatedly said are ignorant, there would be fewer wars if everyone of us, instead of closing on often arrogant attitudes and arguments, to be more humble and tries to "decrease" in others trying to solve problems together. But this, alas, the man came into the world from a hole near the butt, we all know that it will remain only a dream. For me, however, I have no fear. The Turks will be welcome. On the other hand, I have years of smoking as a turkish me and no one has ever ousted by the European Union.
